Tech Brief

Our differentiation is patient engagement and algorithms that track range of motion for all major joints. Our approach to injured worker engagement uses a bio-psycho-social approach, effectively leveraging IoT and IoB to drive quality outcomes at a lower cost. This includes easy to follow program with sensor, app, and analytics, and personalized service understanding the injured workers’ archetype and behavior. If an injured worker is engaged in their recovery, all is well. If not, recovery is delayed, difficult and costly. Too often that central fact gets lost, attention diverted by cool new technology. A long-time work comp claims executive said it well, “we’re not interested in yet another device that costs a bundle, promises the moon, and ends up on a shelf.” This is where a bio-psycho-social approach is critical to driving sustainable engagement. So, how do we drive injured worker engagement? Briefly, we meet each injured worker where they are. This approach leverages the bio-psycho-social aspect that is critical for engaging the worker while capturing necessary insights. That involves: •Understanding their home situation, motivations, and behaviors •Demonstrating empathy and understanding •Realizing the patient’s journey is not a straight line of consistent progress •Adapting the patient’s treatment plan as needed •Engaging with clinicians as quickly as possible when issues arise Recupe's approach to injured worker engagement results in: 1.Improved quality of the care provided. It speeds up and strengthens recovery 2.Supporting quicker return to work 3.Reducing the cost of care

Problem Tech Solves

When an injured worker leaves their treating physician clinic or initial PT visit, they are given some form of written instructions on care plan and home exercises and shown the proper way to do those exercises. From there, they are on their own. If you’ve ever had PT you may remember trying to read the xeroxed instruction sheet, trying to remember what the PT said, and wondering if you’re doing the exercises correctly. Recupe delivers a thoughtful approach to virtual care that supports the injured workers in their recovery journey at home, safely and effectively while speeding up their return to work. Through easy to follow programs, the injured worker follows their care programs at home. Recupe also enables the healthcare providers (doctors, PTs, NCMs) and the claims team actionable insights on engagement, recovery progression, delayed recovery risk, and opportunities for quicker intervention. Claims managers in large self-insured corporations and workers comp carriers care about the right care at the right time for the injured worker to speed recovery and return to work. With Recupe, they are empowering injured workers enables them to manage their care at home and provides visibility into the injured worker’s engagement and recovery progression.

Validation

1. Study #1: Published by UCLA - Designed by expert clinicians and engineers to evaluate the system usability and accuracy of exercises. The system has been tested on the clinicians and engineers and 10 additional subjects, with an average age of 53. The average user satisfaction of the platform is 93%±6.4, and the average accuracy of the exercises is 90%±4.6. HUCAPP, ISBN 978-989-758-555-5; ISSN 2184-4321, pages 190-196. DOI: 10.5220/0010868300003124t- 2. Study #2: Retrospective study on Total Knee Arthroscopy outcome with Recupe and published studies from HSS and IBJI. To be published by a leading health system. The observations were measured for 76 Patients who underwent Total Knee Arthroscopy. Comparison with previous studies: After one month, Recupe patients have an average pain of 3.64, similar to what’s shown in previous research which found an average of 3.68 achieved with the use of inpatient and outpatient PT. Recupe patients recover to similar pain levels with fewer patient visits and health care utilization. Previous study found a 50% knee flexion ROM increase after 6 weeks with treatments such as hemostatic agents and Epidural Patient Control Anesthesia. Recupe patients demonstrated an 89% improvement in knee ROM without any such treatments. 3. Study #3: Retrospective study on surgical and non-surgical musculoskeletal indication, with and without Recupe. This study is in progress for publication this year. 4. Economic ROI: a. We have proven ROI models for quicker return-to-work and reduced claims costs benchmarked to published workers comp guidelines. We have the same for value based model.
