Tech Brief

GritX is a collaboration between the premier mental health research institution - UCSF's Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute - and world-leading conversational AI scientists, including the only team to pass the iconic Turing Test (London, 2014). This collaboration has resulted in a highly differentiated product that includes: -A lifelike emotionally intelligent chatbot and AI platform that identifies, investigates and addresses human emotions and mental health challenges in over 80 languages. -Evidence-based psychoeducational content and interactive tools created by top mental health researchers. -Natural language processing that identifies the user’s situation, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors using sentiment detection and keyword analysis. -Identification and handling of crisis-states to ensure safe transitions to mental health interventions. -Warm handoffs to telemedicine, crisis hotlines, and direct staff communication platforms. -Real-time, HIPAA-compliant knowledge base that stores, analyzes and tracks user information, messages, interactions, and progress. -Secure integration with EHR systems.

Problem Tech Solves

There is a growing worldwide mental health crisis - exacerbated by the global pandemic and a decreasing supply of mental health professionals. This crisis is illustrated by staggering statistics: -7 out of 10 US students experience mental health challenges -72% of Americans don’t have access to mental health care -3 in 5 counties in America do not have a single psychiatrist -Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 10-34 -60% of counties in America do not have a single psychiatrist GritX technology can scale to deliver evidence-based digital mental health resources to an unlimited number of people, at any time, in any location. The Scalable Therapeutics technology platform can be easily configured to deliver curated mental health journeys that target the unique needs of different demographics and populations.

Validation

The evidence-based mental health resources in GritX have been shown to lower scores of depression and anxiety. Additionally, GritX has shown to improve learning in wellness skills and a working knowledge of these skills. Studies include: 1.Pilot Study of GritX: A pilot study of the feasibility and acceptability of a psychoeducational website for young adults and students – N=50. 2.GritX Mobile App Study: An evaluation of an interactive psychoeducational mobile/web app on mental well-being on young adults and students – N=300 (ongoing). Confidence in learning and working knowledge. 3.GritX Chatbot Therapeutic Alliance: Feasibility Study of an Emotionally-Intelligent Chatbot to Establish Therapeutic Alliance with young adults and students – N= in progress.
