Equip is a more accessible and effective eating disorder treatment option compared to the status quo options in the current treatment landscape. Through Equip, patients are able to receive virtual care from a coordinated five-person care team, including a doctor, therapist, dietitian, peer mentor (someone who's been through recovery) and family mentor (someone who's helped their loved one through recovery). Our care was always designed to be fully virtual so families don't have to send their children away from home home or upend their routines. Equip treatment fits the lives of families instead of families fitting into treatment. Many eating disorder clinicians and existing treatment centers provide treatment that feels good but doesn’t work. Out of the 30 million Americans with an eating disorder, only 20% receive treatment, and only 1% receive evidence-based treatment. At Equip, all of our top-of-the-industry providers deliver evidence-based treatment to ensure the highest quality of care. We provide care that doesn’t necessarily feel good, but it works.
Equip is a fully virtual program that delivers Family-Based Treatment at home for lasting recovery. Equip treatment, through a dedicated five-person care team, builds upon Family Based Treatment (FBT) and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Equip includes a proprietary platform for all video sessions, messaging, data, scheduling, and billing and eliminates the various obstacles across access and quality care that families face today. It’s our goal that Equip will be the last eating disorder treatment our patients will ever need. Equip currently treats children, adolescents, and young adults ages 6-24 with eating disorders including Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Anorexia Nervosa and Anorexia, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder (BED).
Barriers to eating disorder care today are vast. 119 million Americans don’t live near eating disorder providers; Equip’s program is fully virtual so families have access to quality care. While most existing treatment centers cost upwards of $45,000 per month, Equip works with several insurance companies including Optum, Cigna, and Horizon – and more to come.
Current research shows that family based treatment is the gold-standard, evidence-based care for eating disorders in children and adolescents. Thus far, 60% of Equip patients have seen a reduction in EDE-QS symptoms (the clinically validated measure for eating disorders), those on weight restoration goals are gaining an average of 1.1 lbs per week (the industry average is 1lb), 98% of families remain in treatment after 4 weeks, and 40% of families feel a reduction in caregiver burden. Our patients are well on their way to lasting recovery. It is important to note that the average relapse rate at residential treatment centers is currently 50% and there are no proven outcomes.
