Tech Brief

We have built a new class of "post-analytic" applications. We deliver application solutions that leverage and drive ROI from our client's investment in data and the analytic insights they have gained. Our cardiovascular focus has provided us with a deep understanding of what it takes to drive care transformation and allowed us to successfully apply machine learning technologies that have demonstrated unprecedented success for the clients we serve. This focus has allowed us to develop and purposely use technology to scale the value we deliver and the number of clients we serve cost-effectively. Last, we have placed at the core of our solution a “collaborative common” among the clients that allow clients to access and share methods without sharing confidentiality and will enable us to monetize the knowledge accumulated in these "Commons."

Problem Tech Solves

Hospitals and health systems struggle to define and manage the performance improvement initiatives needed to reduce cost, improve quality, and attract patients with superior outcomes. Initiatives are ad-hoc, managed inconsistently with spreadsheets, decisions on priorities are not data-driven, goals are soft, and reporting on progress is sparse. Moreover, it can take 3-6 months to define and launch an initiative. Improvement teams must research and define performance measures, build databases and derive measures, and then develop the analytics and a reporting agenda to track improvement. With an average of 8 clinical subspecialties in a cardiovascular service line, 2 initiatives in each subspecialty, and 3-tracking measures for each initiative, driving care transformation gets complex and time-consuming. Biome's Performance Suite automates the definition and management of initiatives. Our solutions allow hospitals to run more initiatives with fewer resources and accelerate their time to gain.

Validation

Our solutions are re-used by the University of California Office of the President and CV leaders at each medical center to drive improvement at each Campus and collectively. The UCs have publicly stated that they have reduced costs by over >$30M. Cedar Sinai attributes Biome by helping them move from # 8 in the USNWR Cardiovascular Rankings to number 3 while saving more than $15M and reducing bleeding events by 42%. Sutter Health and RWJ/Barnabas health have each leveraged Biome to save more than $20M in cost in just two years while halving Acute Kidney Injury, readmission, and other performance measures. Performance Improvement at each site is measured using each hospital's publicly reported outcomes and cost accounting data.
