Problem Tech Solves

Tech Brief

Constant Therapy is the only digital brain rehabilitation program that addresses the challenges faced by providers and patients to access clinically-proven, cost-effective and customized cognitive, speech and language therapy. Over 800,000 people in the US have a stroke every year, over 3.5 million patients have a TBI each year, and there are over 4.5 million patients living with dementia in the US, and over 2 Million people living with Aphasia. These patients have chronic speech, language and cognitive disorders, leading to a significant need for long-term and frequent therapy for these patients. Peer-reviewed, published research shows that stroke, brain injury and dementia patients achieve better outcomes when they receive therapy 4-5 times a week for many months or years after diagnosis. However health systems today typically only deliver therapy at most once a week for a short period of time, due to clinician shortages, the high cost of delivering care in-person, lack of reimbursement, and patients’ lack of access to reliable transportation or distance from clinics. With Constant Therapy, patients can get unlimited personalized therapy regimens at home that are driven by AI, which can be monitored by clinicians and adjusted as needed. This leads to significantly increased access to care, improved outcomes at a fraction of the cost of traditional care. It also enables elderly and cognitively impaired patients to be better engaged in their healthcare, so they can live independently in their homes longer and alleviates care-giver burden.

Tech Differentiators

Constant Therapy is the only digital brain rehabilitation program that applies AI to continuously assess and customize rehabilitation therapy exercises to ensure progress and continuous improvement. It is clinically proven to be effective, and it has proven engagement among patients with elderly and cognitively impaired patients at home, with over 200 Million exercises delivered through its platform to date. Our patented NeuroPerformance Engine™ (the “NPE”) is the AI core that drives Constant Therapy. It analyzes real-world data generated from user interactions with the product to deliver evidence-based exercises customized for each patient. In order to provide the most effective, scientifically-proven exercises for the injury or disorder that users want to address, the NeuroPerformance Engine first assesses the users’ abilities in a variety of cognitive domains. It then looks at how users perform their Constant Therapy exercises to determine exactly how to adjust the program to fit each user’s unique and changing needs, ensuring they’re making the most efficient and effective progress toward their goals. And multiple, peer-reviewed, published research studies have shown that the NPE works. Every patient is different and requires a personalized therapy regimen, based on who they are, their diagnosis and the progress they are making towards their speech, language, and cognitive goals. With the use of its proprietary real-world-data and AI , Constant Therapy micro-personalizes therapy for each patient’s needs, and it engages patients at home in their recovery journey for months or years.

Validation

Several clinical studies show that patients using Constant Therapy improve significantly, and get greater access to care (see: https://constanttherapyhealth.com/science/#Research). - A randomized control trial with 32 patients showed that stroke patients getting only Constant Therapy at home achieved significant improvements on standardized cognitive and language skills compared to patients receiving standard of care workbooks (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fneur.2021.626780/full). These patients received no in-person therapy, thus showing significant cost-savings in clinical visits. - A retrospective study among 3,686 post-stroke aphasia patients using Constant Therapy shows that and home therapy users are able to master tasks 2x faster than clinic therapy users (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fneur.2019.00140/full). - Another retrospective study utilizing Constant Therapy data from 2,249 patients demonstrated that 4 times of weekly practice is optimal for patient improvement (https://www.jmir.org/2022/7/e36135). - A clinical trial among 51 TBI and stroke patients, where patients were given access to Constant Therapy at home in addition to clinic therapy, showed significant improvements on cognitive and language skills. Also, these patients completed 5 times more therapy at home independently compared to the supervised therapy they received with clinicians in-clinic, significantly increasing their access to care. (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2014.01015/full). - A growing body of clinical evidence shows the potential of Constant Therapy’s applicability for patients with mild cognitive impairment, dementia and childhood-absence-epilepsy (see case studies: https://pubs.asha.org/doi/10.1044/2021_PERSP-21-00110, https://pubs.asha.org/doi/abs/10.1044/2021_PERSP-20-00123?af=R&, https://pubs.asha.org/doi/10.1044/persp1.SIG15.68, https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2016.00575/full).
